Restoring Our Watershed (ROW) is a non-profit organization that has been active in the Nandamojo River Valley of Guanacaste, Costa Rica since 2001. We are working to create a “green valley” with a healthy ecosystem and abundant opportunities for people to live and prosper. Our efforts are focused in two areas:
- Reclaiming the health and resiliency of natural areas identified as critically damaged or threatened. An estimated 5-10% of the watershed has been targeted for environmental restoration.
- Reinvigorating local, sustainable food production to create green jobs.
This two-pronged approach reflects our belief that environmental restoration is not enough. Thousands of people live and work in the Nandamojo watershed. Our programs seek to protect our natural resources while cultivating a vibrant, resilient economy.

Nandamojo Visitors Suit Up for a Local Honey Tour
Many people who come to the Nandamojo Valley seek out-of-the-ordinary tours during their stay. With the help of ROW and our Bees for Trees honey producer, Jaime Zuñiga, we've brought several thrill-seeking visitors to experience healthy beehives up close and personal! Depending on the time of year, the process first involves a grueling climb into the hills of the valley and into the small town of La Florida. There, we dress head to toe in full bee suits and prepare the smoker. Jaime then leads the way into his fields where the hives are kept under close surveillence.
